Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to ship my car?
It’s impossible to estimate how long it takes to ship a car without knowing some key pieces of information first. This includes the overall distance between the pickup and drop-off points and the route, weather conditions, and time of the year.
Coast-to-coast shipments roughly take around 7-10 days, while shorter distances take around 2 to 5 days. Our customer service team offers estimated delivery timeframes as well as regular updates during your transportation, with full transparency during the whole delivery process.
How much will it cost to ship my car?
Similarly to shipping length, the cost of shipping a car will depend on various factors. These include:
- Distance: The further the delivery, the more costly it will be.
- The type of transport: Enclosed car transport costs more than open car shipping.
- Vehicle size and weight: Vehicles above a certain weight or size may require special equipment, which costs extra.
- Seasonality: Shipping during peak seasons may demand higher rates, versus slower periods of the year.
To receive an estimated cost of your delivery, we recommend requesting a quote from our free Instant Quote Calculator. This will provide you with an accurate quote for your vehicle’s shipment.
Will my car be insured during transportation?
Yes, your vehicle will be fully insured during its transportation. All our carriers are required to carry insurance that covers any potential damage that might occur during their delivery, which covers your own vehicle in the event of an accident. Although accidents are rare, this coverage offers an added layer of protection and peace of mind. If you have specific insurance-related questions, feel free to direct them towards our customer service team. You can contact them through email, phone, or Live Chat messages.
Does someone have to be present at the time of pickup and delivery?
Yes, at the time of your car’s pickup and delivery, someone is required to provide your car keys to the driver, complete the inspection report, sign the necessary paperwork, and pay any remaining delivery fees. This can be anyone over the age of 18 including yourself, a family member, a friend, or anyone you trust.
What do I need to do to prepare my car for shipping?
Here are some of the things needed before shipping your car:
- Remove any loose attachments or accessories. This is to avoid breaking or losing any attachments or accessories during transit.
- Take out all personal belongings. While your car is insured while in transit, the same cannot be said for your personal items. Because of this, is recommended to remove all of your personal belongings before shipping your car. In the event that they any personal items are left inside your car and they are lost, stolen, or broken, they won’t be covered by insurance.
- Clean your car. Thoroughly washing your vehicle is vital, as it makes it much easier for the driver to conduct the condition report, also known as the BOL (Bill of Lading).
- Make sure your car is in working condition. Your vehicle will need to be fully operational prior to its pickup date. This means inflating tires to the proper level, all fluids filled to their proper levels, having an operational car battery, alternator, etc. Your car will have to be drivable for the carrier to load it onto their trailer. The only exception is if you reported the vehicle as non-operational.
- Make sure your car is in operational condition. Unless you otherwise specify your car as non-operational, your vehicle will need to be in working condition. This is because the carrier will need to drive your vehicle to load it onto their trailer.
- Have a pair of keys to your vehicle. Be ready to hand over a pair of your car keys to the carrier. They’ll need it for loading and unloading your car
